Maynard spoils Cougars' party
A Quadir Maynard inspired Boulevard put paid to a happy send off for Devonshire Cougars as they beat the champions 3-1 at Devonshire Rec last night.
Maynard struck twice in the second half to put the game beyond Cougars.
In a high-tempo affair Boulevard went ahead early on courtesy of a sublime Angelo Simmons volley from a Drewonde Bascome cross.
But the lead was short lived as Mark Steede scored a spectacular diving header less than ten minutes later to level matters.
With both sides having half chances throughout, it was Maynard who stepped up to the plate and stamped his name on proceedings.
His first was a simple tap in after Simmons cut a ball back from the touchline The second was a fine solo effort where he ran through the midfield unmarked, cut back past two defenders and slotted past the onrushing goalkeeper.
n Devonshire Colts boss Keishon Smith is expecting a pulsating 90 minutes tomorrow when his men take on Hamilton Parish in what will be a make-or-break game for both sides at Police Field.
With the pair currently level on points and only separated by goal difference, both clubs will be looking to get maximum points out of this showdown with the loser staring relegation in the face.
And with two matches remaining, the Colts coach is anxious for a result that will go a long way to deciding his side's top flight future.
"We are raring to go this weekend, it will be like a cup final for both sides," said Smith. "I feel our chances are great to get a result. In our last outing against them we gave them five, not to say it will happen again but that is a fact.
"It is their (Colts players) time to shine and this is what they have to get through in order to become champions one day."
With this match one of two remaining home fixtures for Colts ¿ the other clash is against title hopefuls Dandy Town ¿ a loss tomorrow could prove to be a fatal blow to their survival chances.
For Parish, fixtures at home against Somerset Eagles and champions Devonshire Cougars await them ¿ a much tougher road to travel.
Colts visit Boulevard in their last game of the campaign, but Smith believes his side must first take care of home field advantage and doesn't think tomorrow will be as easy as it was in the teams' first encounter.
"That result won't have any relevance to what happens tomorrow but it gives us a lot of confidence going into the match.
"For us it is about being in a good position to stay up and we have won two of our last three games at home which will help us.
"The players have to go out there and get the job done.
"There is more at stake this time around, other than that I keep telling my players that at the end of the day you have to look at what you have done during the whole season.
"Some teams are hitting form now because the season is almost over but we have been working hard throughout the season and we want to finish strong."
Elsewhere, league leaders North Village look to continue their run for the league title when they host Somerset Trojans at Bernard Park.
Second-placed Dandy Town will be looking to take advantage of any slip up from Village when they host Southampton Rangers at St. John's Field.
Town thrashed Rangers 5-0 in the first meeting. In the day's final game PHC host Somerset Eagles at Southampton Oval.
