Morris is new head pro at Riddell's Bay

Brian Morris has been named as the new Head Golf Professional at Riddell's Bay Golf and Country Club.

Morris, formerly the head pro at Belmont Hills, will replace current head, Alex Madeiros, who is leaving the club in September to concentrate on his golf tourism business, Too A Tee.

The move is the latest in a series of changes at the club, which has seen long-time General Manager Dave Warren also move on to be replaced by Dennis Paul, a Bermudian who has been working in America for the past 22 years.

And Paul, who took over as GM at the beginning of June, is delighted to have someone of Morris' calibre at the club.

"We have hired Brian Morris to be our Head Golf Professional. We are very excited to have him," said Paul.

"Brian is a Bermudian who has been out of the golf business for a little over a year, but is eager and excited about getting back into the business.

"And really, what excited me most about Brian had nothing to do with Brian's golf skills, because I already know he's a good golfer. It was his ideas and the energy, and the enthusiasm that he possesses, and that's what I was looking for.

"I want someone who is going to come in and hit the ground running. I wanted someone who was going to come in and say 'you know what, it's a new day, we want to do new things, we want to bring a new energy' that's what our members are looking for so I am very excited that Brian is coming onboard."

One of Morris' first tasks will be to update the tired-looking pro shop that has to cater to the membership, as well as an increasing number of guest visitors.

"We recognise that the pro shop needs to change," said Paul. "During the interview process those things were discussed with Brian and so the idea of a refreshed, revived and regenerated golf shop are all on the table.

"That is something we are acutely aware of and that is going to be one of the main focuses for Brian when he comes on, how we can make the golf shop, operating right now in the confines of what we have, look a lot better, and much more appealing.

"We have some distinct ideas about what needs to be done, and if you come a year down the road, you'll see some differences."
