Nigerian to help run women's football camp

Former Nigerian women's national team coach Sam Okpodu will join some of Bermuda's top coaches in a programme designed to improve interest and participation in women's football on the Island.

The Girls Development Football Camp runs from July 14-18 at the Tatum Middle School and is open to all girls aged between five and 15.

Bermuda assistant national team coach Richard Todd will coordinate the camp with fellow coach Andrew Bascome and women's national team coach Vance Brown also in attendance.

Okpodu, a former Nigerian men's international, will conduct a women's football coaching symposium for coaches interested in getting involved in women's football. Kendall Reyes, the head women's coach at the University of South Carolina, will join him.

The long-term aim is for Bermuda Football Association to create women's football leagues from Under-7s to Under-19s to act as feeder programmes for the adult league.

Registration forms are available from the BFA, schools and football clubs. For more details and to enquire about team/group rates, camp director Todd can be called on 799-3640 or can be obtained by e-mailing GirlsPlay2@hotmail.com.
