Pair resume rivalry in fight for final spot

Dandy Town and Devonshire Cougars will do battle again at Somerset Cricket Club tonight with a final spot in Dudley Eve final on New Year's Day at St. David's at stake.

It was only a fortnight ago that Town beat Cougars 2-0 on the back of Damon Ming and Heys Wolfe goals at the same venue.

With a victory over their urban rivals at the third time of asking this term, Hornets will be looking to even the series between the two clubs and send them out of the competition.

On that occasion, Town had the services of their college students to bolster their ranks and had outstanding performances by them on route to a comfortable victory.

Another key to their victory was Ming, who weaved his way in and out of the Cougars defense causing them all sorts of problems.

However, with more at stake in tonight's match than the last, both sides will undoubtedly be looking to book a place in the final at the expense of the other.

Hoping for a repeat performance, Ming reckons it will be a different game with hopefully the same result.

"We didn't play a bad game against Boulevard but didn't come as prepared as we thought we were, which is why we are in the position we are in," said Ming.

"They played a really good game and we can see them in the final with a victory.

"It will be a different game this time with Cougars potentially bringing in a few of their more experienced players, so we will look to go out with the right mentality and get the result we want."

Cougars have made the last four finals, winning the 2005/06 final, while coming short against Somerset Trojans and North Village in 2006/07 and 2007/08 respectively.

Dandy Town won the 2004/05 title on penalties over Cougars, dedicating the victory to defender Randy Swan who passed away that year.

With all this history between the two clubs, only one can continue on to face Boulevard in the final.
