Pearman gets Port Royal assistant pro job
Dwayne Pearman will be the new assistant professional at Port Royal Golf Course.
One of Bermuda's most successful pro golfers, Pearman, who has worked at Port Royal previously and more recently had served as head pro at Ocean View GC, will work alongside Director of Golf Andrew Brooks and recently-appointed head professional Eric West.
Pearman would have been a strong candidate for the head professional post.
However, he did not apply for the job as he wanted to have the freedom to prepare for the PGA Senior Tour.
Meanwhile, Bermuda Professional Golfers Association are continuing to discuss what they consider is the controversial appointment of West who members believe was given the job ahead of pros with far more experience.
A letter expressing their grievances is expected to be sent to the Port Royal Board of Trustees.
With a tenth hole now open, Port Royal is slowly moving towards being ready for the PGA Grand Slam which is due to be held at the course in October.
An 18-hole tournament is planned for the Southampton course this weekend.
n Meanwhile Michael Sims missed the cut at the Knoxville Open, despite finishing four-under par after the first two rounds.
The Bermudian shot two solid rounds of 70 at the Nationwide Tour event in Knoxville, Tennesse, but just missed out after some low scoring saw the cut reach five-under.
Sims shot four-birdies in each of his two rounds, however he also hit four-bogeys and in the end fell agonisingly short.
In the end, American Kevin Johnson won the event, winning a play-off against New Zeland's Bradley Iles, after the pair finished tied for first on 20-under par.
The win was Johnson's second in three weeks and moves him to within one win of gaining instant promotion to the main PGA Tour.
The tour now moves to Forth Smith, Arkansas and the Forth Smith Classic which begins on Thursday.
