Richards ready for season finale

Antoine Richards will be travelling to the Mid-Ohio Raceway in Lexington, Ohio this weekend to compete in round six of the AMA PRO Supersport Championship, the first of four races he hopes to race in before the season ends.

Richards, who is still trying to secure enough sponsorship funds to enable him to compete in the remaining races, managed to get enough money to cover the costs of this weekend's event.

The 22-year-old wants to prove to those who still aren't sure of his talent that he possesses what it takes to be at the highest level.

"I managed to get some funds for this race coming up so I'll be there, but I'm still trying to raise money for the rest of the ones I want to race in," said Richards, who left for the US yesterday.

"This is the first of the four races I wanted to do, so I'm looking forward to putting in a good performance.

"I still need to recruit for funds, I have both hats on; the promoter and the racer, but no one said it will be easy.

"I'm going to show I can compete at the top level, and to show that my fitness work is going along well.

"I want to make sure that the work I have put in here at home pays off, that's probably the main thing as well as seeing if I have made any progress since my last race."

One major hindrance in Richards' preparation was his bike, a problem that denied valuable track time in the build up to the race.

Regardless, the Celtic Racing rider knows what must be done to get the results required of him.

"(Success) will be gauged by where I finish compared to where I start, I'm not expecting to win races and blow away everyone," he said.

"It will be tough as I haven't been away in a while, but there are two races, one on Saturday and one Sunday, so I want to see how I perform.

"I have done all I can do but my main problem in the build up was my bike, which has been giving me a hard time.

"But besides that I'm pretty much ready to go."
