Schoolchildren offered free tickets for Gland Slam

Teenagers and children are being offered free tickets to watch this month's PGA Grand Slam of Golf at Port Royal, featuring four of the worlds top professional golfers.

The deal, however, only applies to those who will be accompanied by an adult who has already bought a ticket.

This year's field includes last week's European's Ryder Cup hero Graeme McDowall, who earlier in the year won the US Open, British Open champion Louis Oosthuizen from South Africa and another European Ryder Cup star, Germany's Martin Kaymer, who won the US PGA Championships in August.

Masters winner Phil Mickelson is unable to play in the Grand Slam, opening the door for three-time major champion Ernie Els, from South Africa.

"The PGA of America is pleased to offer great value in the tickets this year by reducing prices some 50 percent," said David Charles, Senior Director of Championships for The PGA of America.

"The offering of free junior tickets is an excellent opportunity for the future of golf to witness, in person, the greatest golfers of 2010.

"We encourage all Bermudians not to miss out on this opportunity to attend this spectacular, fan friendly, walk in the fairway with the players golf tournament. We look forward to seeing Bermudians provide the contestants with a warm Bermuda welcome by creating a special atmosphere for their spirited competition.

"This is Bermuda's time to shine in the international golf spotlight."

Among those playing in the October 18 Pro-Am is former Test star Brian Lara.

The main event will be staged on October 19 and 20.

Tickets for all three days are available for $50 and come in the form of three individual tickets for each day. Daily tickets for individual day attendance will be available for $2.

They can be purchased at the Port Royal golf shop or via telephone by dialling 1-800-PGA-GOLF (800-742-4653), or 561-624-7601, or by visiting www.pgagrandslamofgolf.com
