Sims kept waiting by rain, wind
Michael Sims has made it to the weekend of a Nationwide Tour event for the first time in three attempts . . . with a little help from the weather.
The Bermudian was one of only a handful of golfers who were able to complete their first rounds in the Melwood Prince George's County Open on Thursday, before wind and rain caused play to be suspended.
And yesterday was a complete wash-out, meaning the first round will have to be completed today.
Organisers have pencilled in a 7.30 a.m. start time for those who haven't completed the first round, with the second round due to start at 9 a.m.
It is likely that Sims would have made the cut anyway given his opening round one-under par 71.
A rollercoster 18 holes saw him card four birdies and three bogeys, with a birdie at the par-five last bringing him in under par and tied for 38th.
Going into this week's tournament, Sims had suffered a slump in form as he failed to progress from the second round at the Rex Hospital Open in Raleigh, Carolina and before that the BMW Open in Greer, South Carolina.
But he remains well placed on the Nationwide Tour moneylist following a sparkling start to the season when he made four consecutive cuts to earn over $35,000.
His best finish so far is ninth at the Chitimacha Louisiana Open where he earned $13,200 after opening with a sizzling 64.
