Sims lets it slip with triple bogey
A triple-bogey six at the par-three fifth hole sent Michael Sims tumbling down the leaderboard at the Ford Wayne Gretzky Classic yesterday, and a week that started with a bang, ended with a whimper as he finished in a tie for 44th.
It was a familiar story for the Bermudian pro golfer, who also carded four bogeys in the final round of the Nationwide Tour event, along with two birdies and an eagle to finish with a three-over 74.
Sims' game has been plagued by inconsistency in recent weeks and it was no different yesterday.
His final round was in stark contrast to his two opening rounds of 68 and 69, which saw him make the cut for the first time in several weeks.
Played over two courses, the Georgian Bay Club (7,139 yards, par 71) and The Raven Golf Club at Lora Bay (7,105 yards, par 72), the tournament offered $800,099 in prizemoney with American Roger Tambellini collecting the winner's cheque of $144,018.
Sims made a promising start on Thursday, firing a four-under 68 at Raven GC in a round that included an eagle, five birdies and three bogeys.
And on Friday he picked up three birdies in a round of 69 at Georgian Bay.
In Saturday's third round he recorded an even-par 71 at Georgian Bay where the final round was also played.
