Smith claims MVP honours at indoor event

Chayce Smith was in fine form at the CIAA Indoor Track and Field Championships in Hampton, Virginia, earning MVP honours for his college, St. Augustine.

Smith won the 800 metres in a time of one minute, 57 second 10, while running 4.29.63 to take line honours in the mile.

He won the MVP honours for the men's running events.

Also competing over the weekend were Aaron Evans, Latroya Darrell, Shahnel Woodley, Shianne Smith and Arantxa King.

Evans placed 21st in the 800m with a time of 1.56.28, while his University of Georgia team-mate, Latroya Darrell, finished 14th in the triple jump with a leap of 12.17m. Both were competing at the University of Arkansas' Tyson Invitational.

California State University athlete, Shainne Smith, competed in the indoor pentathlon at the Grand Valley State Meet where she placed sixth in the 60m hurdles with a jump of 9.38 metres, third in the long jump with a leap of 5.43m, seventh in the high jump (1.55m), ninth in shot putt (9.75) and a seventh in the open long jump (5.52m).

University of Nevada Las Vega athlete, Woodley, came fourth in the 60m sprint in a time of 7.90 seconds and fourth in the 200m in a time of 25.04 at the BSU Team Inivtational, in Idaho.

Meanwhile, Arantxa King competed at the Husky Classic in the women's long jump for Stanford University.

King had a leap of 6.03m that saw her finish third overall.
