Bermuda long jumper Tyrone Smith failed in his bid to leap into the World Championships finals in Berlin yesterday, writes Stephen Wright.
Smith, Bermuda's only representative at the event, who had targeted a place in Saturday's final, finished 17th in Group B with a jump of 7.72 metres. The qualifying mark was 8.15, or a top 12 finish.
The 23-year-old, who qualified for the event via a wildcard, narrowly missed out on booking his place in the finals at the Beijing Olympics last summer, finishing 14th.
Former Bermudian Olympian Troy Douglas, who won a silver medal at the 1995 World Indoor Championships, is also in Berlin coaching the Dutch relay team.
