Bermuda long jumper Tyrone Smith finished in a respectable fifth position with a leap of 7.91 meters at the Continental Cup in Split, Croatia, at the weekend.
Three-times world champion and the 2004 Olympic champion, Dwight Phillips, of the US, won the event by jumping 8.34 metres.
Smith was selected for the Americas Cup team to compete in the Continental Cup after winning the gold medal at this summer's CAC Games in Puerto Rico.
Europe captured the Continental Cup by a narrow margin over the Americas team, 429 points to 419.5.
Individual event winners earned $30,000, part of a $3 million prize money purse.
Next month will see Smith and sprinter Tre Houston represent Bermuda at the Commonwealth Games in Delhi.
