Speight appointed to ICC committee
Bermuda Cricket Board (BCB) executive Neil Speight has been selected to serve on the International Cricket Council (ICC) Finance and Commercial Affairs Committee.
Speight will work alongside chairman Sharad Pawar, Giles Clarke, Haroon Lorgat and David Morgan.
The ICC's headquarters are located in Dubai.
President of the BCB, Reginald Pearman, said: "Following Neil's election to the ICCs executive Board last July, the BCB would like to congratulate him on being selected by the ICC to serve on the ICC Finance and Commercial Affairs Committee.
"This is another monumental achievement for Neil and we are extremely pleased with his success."
Meanwhile, organisers of the four-nation Twenty20 tournament in Toronto are facing problems getting visas for the Zimbabwe team and they may have to fall back on a replacement side, possibly Bermuda, in order for the event to go ahead.
Sources, well aware of the preparations for the event, said the Canadian embassy have yet to issue visas for the Zimbabwe team. The tournament is just days away, starting this Friday.
"Apparently it is the usual issue of western governments having problems with the government in Zimbabwe and not wanting to encourage any sporting ties with the African nation," one source said.
The source added that the organisers have already started looking at a non-associate member country of the ICC as a possible replacement and Bermuda were under consideration.
Most of the western countries have suspended diplomatic ties with Zimbabwe and the African nation's status of a Test playing nation has already been suspended by the ICC.
A few months back their ICC full membership was only maintained when they agreed to not participating in the Twenty20 World Championships next year in England.
New Zealand and South Africa also have suspended cricket ties with Zimbabwe.
Zimbabwe were a replacement team for West Indies who didn't agree to play in the tournament as they complained about the poor ground conditions in Toronto.
The tournament has already been postponed once before in August owing to various problems.
The source said the organisers were using all diplomatic channels to get visas for the Zimbabwe team but had not met with success so far.
