St David's boss Eugene Crockwell believes there should be –12 teams in the First Division next season, but hopes his side isn't one of them.
Currently third in the league, a 6-1 thrashing of Wolves yesterday kept the East End club in the hunt for an automatic promotion spot, and put some daylight between themselves and Somerset Trojans who are fourth.
The win moves Warriors to within two points of second-placed St George's Colts, and top-club Somerset Eagles who have 37 points apiece. St George's were also in action yesterday, beating Young Men's Social Club 3-1.
With the new changes to the league structure next season, the side that finishes third in the First Division will still get a chance to win a place in the top-flight, taking on the bottom club in the Premier Division over two-legs for the right to play with the elite.
"We are looking to finish in the first two, our focus hasn't changed," said Crockwell.
"But if it doesn't happen then we'll take the play-off, it doesn't hurt us any.
"I think the changes are good, it's always important to have ten teams in the Premier Division, I'm looking forward to it.
"I think we should have more teams in the First Division though, I think if we had about 12, it would be more competitive, I don't think nine is good for the First Division.
"Bringing in some clubs from the Commercial League would be a good place to start.
"There are some very good teams in the Commercial League, I think it will make us stronger to play against different opposition."
Given that the fight for two of the top three spots in the First Division is likely to go down to goal-difference, it was essential that St David's won, and won big yesterday. Although six points ahead of Trojans, the Somerset club have two games in hand on their rivals, as do Eagles over St George's.
"I was very satisfied, six goals will help us in the long run for sure, so I was very satisfied with the win," said Crockwell.
Angelo Cannonier and Aaron Crockwell both scored twice, while Otis Minors and Dominique Lambert added the others in a game that the home side should probably have won by a far greater margin.
Crockwell scored twice in the first half, either side of a fine header from Cannonier, in a completely one-sided affair where Wolves rarely threatened.
It was much the same after the break with Cannonier and Lambert getting onto the score sheet, before Minors saved the best for last curling the ball in from 25-yards.
Wolves' only consolation came from the shin of Derek Brangman after some good work down the right by Shakii Pearman. The scrappy nature of the finish said much for Wolves entire performance.
In the day's other game, goals from Damon Darrell and Keenan Burchall gave St George's a 2-1 lead at half time, before Marcus Anderson wrapped up the win for the home side in the second half.
