Stan shines in Canada

Bermuda sailor Sam Stan finished the IODA North American Championships in 14th place in a fleet of 196 in Ontario, Canada at the weekend.

Stan completed the championships with a victory in race nine on the third day, accumulating a total of 89 points after his two worst placings were dropped.

Bermuda's Ferdinand Arnold, Antonio Bailey, Michael Barit, Rory Caslin, Hannah Horsfield, Makai Joell, Ceci Wollman, Ellie Wollman and Mikey Wollman also took part in the competition.

Ellie Wollman finished 82nd with her highest placing being a 10th while Mikey and Ceci Wollman placed 171st and 139th respectively.

Bailey placed 114th with a high placing of 22nd, with Joell placed 120th with a high of 24th.

Barit (125), Caslin (151), Arnold (157), Horsfield (176) all put in good efforts in the tough conditions.

In the team competition, both Bermuda I and Bermuda II lost their initial races to Netherlands I and USA II respectively in the double elimination format, setting up a showdown between Netherlands and USA.

Bermuda I then beat Bermuda II and then followed that victory with a win over Canada III before eventually bowing out after their second defeat of the competition against Canada III.
