Tara exacts revenge . . .
Tara Lambert and Gavin Manders reigned supreme in the Argus Open at the WER Joell Tennis Stadium, defeating opponents Jacklyn Lambert and Andy Bray.
Lambert gained revenge on her younger sister, Jacklyn, winning 6-3, 6-7, 7-5 to claim the Ladies Singles title, while top-ranked Manders held off number two Bray 6-2, 6-4 during Saturday's finals day.
Having not beat her number two-ranked sister in their previous two clashes this season, Tara capped a memorable weekend as she had already won the Ladies Doubles with her sister and the Mixed Doubles with Jenson Bascome.
The tennis siblings have lifted all three singles titles this year with Jacklyn taking home the Bermuda Open and Pomander Gate Open.
"This was a great victory for me and a great confidence builder," said Tara Lambert, who is currently third in the rankings.
"The last two times we met, Jacky was head and shoulders above me, being physically fitter and stronger.
"She hits a hard heavy ball which can be pretty intimidating if you are not fit enough to get in position to get behind it and pound it back.
"I let her back in the second set when I should have finished her off, being up 5-2.
"As for my confidence, I'm pumped for the next tournament and will keep training and teaching at Elbow Beach until then."
Manders also manoeuvered his way to victory over Bray, using strategy more than brute strength to overcome his opponent.
The impressive victory cemented Manders' position as the number one male tennis player on the Island ahead of Bray who had been top dog for some time.
Manders is now aiming to go throughout the entire season undefeated both domestically and internationally. He has triumphed in the Island Construction and Argus tournaments year, while Bray will have to regroup after going winless since his Vitamin Water win earlier in the season.
"I have definitely stamped myself as the number one player in Bermuda with this win," said Manders. "I have beaten him in two straight finals quite convincingly, 6-3, 6-3 in the Island Construction and 6-2,6-4 in the Argus. I think my strategy was too much for him in the end.
"I know he's gunning for me now more than ever and all I can do is promise that I'll be focused and ready for a rematch if we meet again."
