Thompson tops again

Garth Thomson battled the elements to claim his third successive victory in the 2010 Mountain Biking National Championships at a windy Ferry Reach.

Thomson, racing for Bicycle Works, took control of the race after two laps, leaving team-mate Grant Goudge in second place and Mark Adderley in third last weekend.

Bermuda Bicycle Association's (BBA) first national title event of the year saw Sarah Bonnett, (Team Madison) take victory over Sarah Jordan (Team Tokio) in the women's race, while junior female champion Gabriella Arnold (Winners Edge) outpaced Elizabeth Jordan (Team Tokio) who crashed halfway through the race and was unable to finish.

The junior male race, as expected, developed as a battle between Dominique Mayho (Team Madison), Tre'shun Correia (Winners Edge) and Alex Godfrey (Bicycle Works).

After setting a hard pace at the start of the race, Mayho was able to consolidate his lead and kept chasers Correia and Godfrey far enough back to assure him of the overall title.

The BBA's mountain biking season concludes on Sunday with the Primary and Middle School Team Mountain Biking Championship at the Arboretum.

Starting at 1 p.m., the event is open to all primary and middle school students. Information is available at www.bermudabicycle.org.
