Time for us to all take a long hard look at ourselves
I've been asking myself this week what I can do to try and help turn around Bermuda Hogges' current bad run of form.
We all have to take responsibility for our recent defeats and ask ourselves 'what can I do to improve the situation?'
I may not be strictly involved in on the pitch matters this season but I'm still trying to do my bit for the club, and have spoken to some of the players to get their thoughts.
I strongly believe that our players and coaches must look in the mirror and ask themselves that very question, in order for us to pull ourselves out of this slump.
As a professional player I've been in this situation on numerous occasions and I can tell you that it's never a pleasant feeling.
Your first reaction is always to try and blame someone else, as you never want to admit that you're partly at fault for your team not winning.
You look to blame your goalkeeper and defenders for letting in goals, or the midfielders for not creating chances for you to score from.
But as I became more experienced I then started asking myself 'what could I do differently' more frequently. As a striker I worked harder to put pressure on defenders to prevent them from bringing the ball out of defence.
I used to challenge myself to makes two or three successful tackles each half so we could gain possession of the ball higher up the pitch. If I could accomplish those tasks then I knew I was helping my team gain a slight, but important, advantage.
And each Hogges player must now look to do the same in tonight's match against Western Mass Pioneers. I honestly don't believe that we are a bottom of the league team anymore, but that's where we find ourselves and it's not good enough.
We've had two years experience at this level now and we must at least improve on our ninth place finish of last season. I don't think we're a million miles away from being a play-off team and we've got three successive home matches to try and turn things around.
There are still eight matches to go this season and 24 points to play for.
It's important we don't lose our belief and remain confident in our ability. We're probably all feeling a little sorry for ourselves at the moment, which is understandable, as you naturally fall into a rut when you keep losing matches.
Hopefully tonight will be the start of a run of good form for us and once again we hope we can count on your support.
