Todd sounds promotion warning
Richard Todd is adamant St. George's can fight off challenges from Robin Hood and St. David's and gain promotion to the Premier Division in his first season as coach.
The title chasing trio have all distanced themselves from the rest of the league and are entrenched in a seesaw battle for the two promotion spots.
Todd, whose team face Paget Lions at Somerset Cricket Club tonight, is confident his squad have the strength in depth and talent to get the job done.
"The promotion race is shaping up how we thought it would be, very competitive with three teams clearly establishing themselves as sides that can challenge for the two spots," said Todd. "Obviously with only two going up, one will be disappointed.
"We're playing good football right now and the difference between us and St. David's and Robin Hood is our draw against X'Roads.
"Other than that we are okay considering those two still have to play each other, so someone will drop points and that will be our chance to get back in it with a win.
"We don't have any injury problems, we have a lot of depth at the moment and I have been pleased with the players. We just need to get our points and let the race shape itself out."
The former Bermuda national team assistant reckons Andrew Bascome's "mature" Robin Hood have enjoyed their fair fortune of luck this season, winning with late goals.
He also labelled their style of play as more defensive than the other title hopefuls.
"Robin Hood have been fortunate with some of their results, the 1-0 results, and with a lot of late goals," Todd said.
"We try to play attacking football, Hood have a different type of personnel, they centre their game around stopping you from playing and then score the odd goal, often from a set piece.
"Andrew has helped them in the organisation department, but the personnel he has is different from mine and I trust our ability.
"In our match, they were more concerned about stopping us rather than playing, but they are very organised and I think the maturity of their players is the big difference.
"Hood have mature players, both in their professional and personal lives and I think that is why he (Bascome) is having the success he is.
"But at the end of the day there are no excuses, we have to be better than the teams around us in order to get promotion and that's the reality."
