Tucker hails side's 'fighting spirit'
Dandy Town 3
Somerset Trojans 1
Super sub Lynn Tucker hailed Dandy Town's non-stop commitment after they overturned a 1-0 deficit at St. John's Field against Somerset Trojans to end their five game skid.
Tucker had only been on the pitch for two minutes prior to snatching the go ahead goal in a thrilling encounter after Jahmel Swan cancelled out Jelani Butterfield's strike for the visitors. Poacher Raymond Beach got the Hornets third goal.
"It felt real good to come on late and get the chance I did to help the side get a result," said Tucker of his performance. "We have been on a losing streak lately and wanted to bounce back at home. It feels good to be a factor in a match we had to win."
Town showed why they haven't won a match in five matches with their early opportunities in front of goal.
Three good chances went begging for the hosts with Nahki Wells hitting the crossbar, Heys Wolffe sailing over from close range, and Jared Peniston also going high. Beach wasn't his usual self either, skewing chances, typical of his side's recent fortunes.
They wouldn't have been wrong to think that their woes would continue when Trojans skipper Jelani Butterfield slid his chance under Mikkail Crockwell after intricate work between himself and Burrows.
Wells and Beach then worked well in tandem that ended in Wells shot coming off the post.
The ensuing attack by Trojans saw Dwight Basden upended in the Town area, but Crockwell saved Butterfield's spot kick.
It was just the sort of luck Town needed as six minutes later a Swan laser beam from 25 yards clipped the inside of the back post after another Wells and Beach link up to level matters.
This was followed by the introduction of Tucker who seemed to inspire Hornets with his energy, and it wasn't any surprise he snatched the winner after the ball fell to his boot, and swiveling on a dime, he drove his effort past Andrew Jjombwe.
And if it wasn't enough for the home fans, Beach rose above his marker to sneak his header inside the post to make the points safe with a well-deserved strike.
Tucker added: "As a team we have been fighting hard, but the goals have seemed hard to come by. Today we had a few chances to put it away but the important thing is staying together and we will be alright.
"Everyone is working as a unit and we will begin to pick up our level right now. It was a great result at home in the position we are in.
"I want to thank my team-mates for this win even though I scored because they have worked hard week in and week out to get ourselves out of the position we are in."
