Win over Colts lifts gloom at Zebras

Hope appears to have been completly restored in the Zebras camp after this comphensive three-goal victory combined with the recent decision of coach Kyle Lightbourne to remain at the helm after briefly turning in the towel.

At Police field yesterday three goals in the second half by Seon Givens, Kevin Lambe and Cecoy Robinson spearheaded them to victory against cellar-dwellers Colts who, sadly, continued to struggle with an apparent lack of self belief.

While Lightbourne may have been satisfied with his team's display in the second half he had to be worried up to that period after his team were distinctly lacking in the opening half against mediocre opponents who largely looked inept from start to finish.

Though dominating from the start Zebras lacked explosive striking potential while pinning Colts in defence for the entire opening half.

For Colts it proved to be a clear case of revealing that they have all of the potential of being relegated as they failed to create a single direct threat on goal or managed anything to worry Jay Smith in the Zebras goal during the entire 90 minutes.

After a long lackluster period of the first half Zebras came alive just before the half when full-back Blenn Bean sent a left-footed cross which deflected off a defender and crashed off the goal post and from the resulting corner Kevin Richards headed firmly at goalkeeper Sean Perinchief.

Zebras wasted little time in increasing their tempo when play re-started and after 50 minutes skipper Chris Furbert leaned back too far and powered a Cecoy Robinson cross over from 13 yards when he should have scored.

Robinson himself scored two minutes later but was offside.

An incredible miss by the Zebras came eight minutes later when Seion Givans stole a ball from a defender but hurried his shot directly at advancing goalkeeper Perinchief.

The eventual go-ahead goal came after 63 minutes when Givans rose high to head home a Blenn Bean corner.

With Colts offering only token resistance Zebras always seemed capable of being rewarded for their superior play and a second goal came after 72 minutes when Givens created the pass for Kevin Lambe to score from 12 yards.

Then two minutes from time Cecoy Robinson added the third from close in on the right to end an afternoon of utter frustration for the Colts' bench.

As though the drubbing wasn't sufficiently punishing Colts had salt poured in their wounds when forward Kyle Jones was sent off for a second bookable offence right at the end.
