Bermuda could only manage one win on Saturday night at the ‘Rumble of the Rock 2’ at WER Joell Stadium under rainy conditions, with female fighter Talia Iris grabbing her chance at stardom.In what was to be a night of close fights, it was the visitors who walked away with smiles at the end of the night, claiming five of the six wins against the locals.Despite the results going against the local fighters, Garon Wilkinson, president of the Bermuda Sanshou Association, was pleased with the night and the show put on by all those involved.“After a slightly rocky start due to the rain that came down right at the beginning, the event went well,” said Wilkinson.“The bouts were very exciting, we did not have any knockouts during the night, however, I believe the crowd enjoyed the level of competition that we had to offer.“We would typically fight without shin pads but given the proximity of the world championships in Turkey we decided to use pads to avoid any injuries.“I was pleased with my team`s performance and I feel that Jashun Thomas, youngster Samir Furqan, Sentwali Woolridge and Talia Iris all showed their true potential.“I was particularly pleased with Talia’s performance, especially after her very challenging fight back in April against World Muay Thai Federation Continental Champion Ashley Nichols.“She picked up her training after that fight and came in fitter, stronger and hungry for the win.”The headlining fight of the evening saw Bermuda Sanshou Association fighter Sentwali Woolridge take on Absoloot –Boxing’s Theo Tor in a three-round San Shou match at 165 pounds, a bout that Tor won via decision.The bigger Tor used his wresting ability to neutralise the striking ability of Woolridge to take the points victory.Bermuda’s top female San Shou fighter, Iris, defeated X3 Sports fighter Verity Yata, with the local clearly getting the better of her opponent.San Shou teenager Samir Furqan, 17, could not continue his winning ways as he went down to 25-year-old X3 Sports fighter Joel Kasik.The opening round was very fast paced with both fighters exchanging really good blows, and although Furqan managed to cause Kasik to bleed from the nose, he couldn’t do enough to sway the result in his favour.Shannon Ford and Deondre Morris, who squared off against each other at Fight Night XIII, both went down this time around as Ford lost a decision to Michael Graves, while Morris lost a decision to Jasun Thomas.Bermuda Sanshou fighter Reyel Bowen lost a decision fight to Shawntavius Wells and Bermuda Karate Institute’s Jeron Gunness went down against X3 Sports fighter Kitwana Ruddock.Orlando Jewel defeated Troy Yancey in all-USA boxing match.
