Raynor’s position still unclear

Randy Raynor’s status as president of Southampton Rangers remains unclear. The former cricketer and military sergeant major was asked to resign from the top post after receiving a vote of no confidence from the club’s Board of Directors during a special meeting last month.“The president was handed the vote of no confidence against him at the end of this meeting that was attended by the executive and the Board of Directors,” a club spokesperson confirmed. So far Raynor has yet to return calls to The Royal Gazette. When contacted yesterday, Rangers secretary Crystal Simmons declined to comment. It remains unclear why Raynor was asked to resign. However, it is understood that he has come under fire for his handling of the club and has reportedly been blamed for the club’s poor financial standing.Raynor has been accused of micro managing the club and his decision to back his club’s boycott of last summer’s Western Counties competition also ruffled feathers. It has also been reported that the club’s debt has risen during Raynor’s term in office. The Rangers spokesperson suggested that the beleagured club president could be replaced by someone else who will serve in the top post on an interim basis until a permanent president is elected at the next annual general meeting.“If he hasn’t (resigned) then the club will just have to go a little deeper,” the spokesperson said.Rangers vice-president Gerri Saltus and director Ryan Belboda have emerged as potential candidates to take over the helm on a temporary basis in the event Raynor either resigns or is forced out of office.
