Ronaldson brace hands Onions win

Flanagan’s Onions 3 Somerset Trojans 2Striker Kevin Ronaldson struck a double salvo in Flanagan’s Onions’ victory over Somerset Trojans at Goose Gosling Field on Saturday night.Onions, who had lost their previous four matches, fell behind after skipper Keston Lewis conceded a penalty which Trojans’ Tyrell Burgess converted.A deflected free kick from Gavin Thomason saw Onions draw level with Ronaldson then giving his side the lead at half-time with a well-placed header.Ronaldson added his second shortly after the interval after sloppy defending from Trojans afforded the big striker a simple tap in to make it 3-1 to the hosts.Jonathon Bean threw Trojans a lifeline when fired home from a cross, but Onions managed to hold on for their first win since beating North Village in October.Onions winger Thomason was stretchered off with a broken leg after a second half collision with Trojans keeper Shaquille Bean who was also taken to hospital with a bruised rib.Onions defender Steven Upton praised his team’s defence for withstanding some late Trojans pressure.“It was great to end the year with a victory and on 13 points in the league. We defended very solidly to keep Trojans at bay,” he said.“It was a hard-fought win and everyone put in 100 percent. We are looking forward to the new year and more victories to come.”
