Butterfield in third place finish
Bermuda’s Tyler Butterfield finished third at the Abu Dhabi Triathlon over the weekend.Competing against some of the strongest athletes in the sport at one of the longest and most gruelling courses in the world, Butterfield finished in a time of six hours, 47 minutes, 49 seconds.Belgium’s Frederik Van Lierde won the event in a time of 6:41.01, while Spain’s Eneko Llanos was second in a time of 6:45.02.Great Britain’s Daniel Halksworth led the men onto the bike leg, just three seconds ahead of Fraser Cartmell and six seconds ahead of Van Lierde.Van Lierde stayed with the front pack throughout the bike before earning a 30-second lead over Spain’s Eneko Llanos and a one-minute lead over Butterfield.The Belgian held strong from there, crossing the finish line to earn his second victory at this race. Llanos finished second, with Butterfield claiming third.Tyler’s wife Nikki, the defending female champion was forced to pull out of the race due to adductor cramping 40 kilometres into the bike ride.
