5K in St George’s is a weighty matter
A last minute call has gone out to runners and walkers interested in taking part in the annual 5K event at St George’s this Sunday.
The Healthy Choice Weight Handicap 5K Road Race run and walk is a popular end of season event, combining a ‘race within a race’.
Competitors will not only be looking to see how fast they can get around the scenic course, they will also be entered into a weight handicap contest where a calculation is done using their finishing time and their race day weight to determine who is the swiftest on a weight-to-speed basis.
Last year’s overall race winner was Bermuda Olympian Tucker Murphy.
The event is organised by the Mid Atlantic Athletic Club and starts from York St, heading up Barrack Hill to Gates Fort, then onto Barry Road and around to Coot Pond Road before returning to the town’s King’s Square via Naval Tanks Hill, Sapper Lane, Old Military Road and Barrack Hill.
Walkers will start at 8.15am, with runners setting off 15 minutes later. There will be prizes for lead finishers and the top three in the weight handicap contest, as well as a draw prize.
Entries can be made at Sportseller, in Washington Mall, or online at www.racedayworld.com by 5pm on Friday.
Late entries will be allowed at race bib pickup at Game Time in the Emporium Building on Front Street between noon and 2pm on Saturday.
