Riley hits jackpot in Vegas

Striking it rich: Riley led a group of 40 bowlers

Bermuda bowler Steven Riley took first place in the Men’s Singles Handicap Division at the National Bowling Association Championships in Las Vegas.

Riley led a group of about 40 members of the Bermuda Bowling Senate that netted a total of $15,213 in prizes with some impressive finishes.

In addition to his first- place finish, Riley took second in the Men’s All Events and teamed up with Vernon Daniels to come thirteenth in the men’s doubles.

Donald Dane and Jermaine DeSilva also finished strongly and took third and tenth place in the men’s singles.

In the women’s competition, Adorna Hayward, Christal Payne, and Corrine Durrant had finishes of 41st, 70th, and 71st. Bermuda’s seniors team, the Bermuda Pin Splitters, also took first place in an impressive showing.

The team consisted of Vance Gilbert, Vernon Daniels, Anthony Zuill and a substitute from the United States.

The Bermuda Strikers including Lamar Richardson, Damien Matthews, Michael Honore, Jermaine DeSilva and Patrice Tucker placed eighth in the mixed team category.

The ten-day tournament was primarily a handicap competition, with prizes also given for actual scores. Bermuda’s performance highlighted a total of 1,452 teams, 4,484 singles and 2,242 doubles entries.
