Family affair at Vesey Street

The last round of harness racing at Vesey Street proved to be a family affair as brothers Casey and Christian Truran claimed five victories between them.

Casey bagged three wins competing on two different racing ponies while Christian produced two wins in the Free for All also on different ponies.

Casey swept both heats in the 1:06/1-1:07/1 time bar with Inwood's Generation and was also victorious with Big Mean Machine in the 1:07/2-1:10 division.

Christian guided Itsallaboutme to victory in the second heat of the Free for All, reserved for ponies in the 1:04/4 & faster time bar, before edging out last season's top pony Cherokee's Ironman by a one fifth of a second to win the third heat of the Free for All.

Arnold Manders's gelding posted its fastest time of the season of 1:05/4 on the way to victory in the fourth and final Free for All heat. The Indiana-bred pony's time was also the fastest recorded during the previous race day.

The Truran brothers were among a handful of drivers managing multiple wins during the second race day of the season.

Kirista Rabain had three wins with Jason and Ashley Peniston's mares Reel Patrol and Just Watch Me.

She guided Reel Patrol to victory in the opening heat of the Free for All before completing a clean sweep with Just Watch Me in the slower 1:05-1:06 time bar.

“It's really a nice feeling to have them both running really, really well,” Rabain said.

“The owners are doing all their homework and it's definitely paying off right now.”

During the previous race day Rabain recorded the season's fastest time to date of 1:05/1 with Reel Patrol.

“Considering how early it is in the season and how well she feels it's a pretty exciting feeling to think about what's going to happen for the rest of the year,” Rabain added.

Also managing three victories was Kiwon Waldron on two different ponies.

He won three of the four heats in the 1:13/1 & slower time bar with Special Gold and Gold-N-Glory.

Harness racing continues on Saturday, starting from 6pm.
