The Olderhood Group, a life transition consulting and coaching company, has launched its new Retirement Planning Advisory Service.

Olderhood describes the service as “a personal yet private boutique counselling solution to educate and prepare island residents on what they need to do to lead a happy life during their retirement years”.

Bill Storie, chief executive officer of Olderhood, said: “When clients tell me they’re ‘ready’ for retirement, I presume they have planned their finances, personal, lifestyle goals for the years ahead, but nine times out of ten, they haven’t.

“There’s a common misconception that you can begin retirement planning when you have only a few years of work left, but the truth is that it is better to start sooner than you think.

“At Olderhood, we recommend our clients begin retirement planning in their midyears so they have ample time to make important decisions and adjust them as necessary.

Mr Storie leads the new advisory service which will look at clients’ lifestyle options and financial positions to then provide them with custom solutions to make sure their retirement is successful and sustainable.

He said that while many individuals are excited to reach their retirement years, many are unprepared for the effects retirement has on an individual — particularly on their wallet.

Mr Storie said he started seeing a trend in the lack of retirement preparation through his interactions with Olderhood’s client base.

Along with not knowing how to prepare, many people did not even know when to begin planning, and he realised there was a need for an accessible and affordable way for people to get this necessary information.
