‘Twas the Market Before Christmas (2022)

Inflation fighter: Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell (AP Photo/Jacquelyn Martin)

‘Twas the market before Christmas,

And it’s time to review

The significant events of 2022.

The Federal Reserve is taking great care

To stamp out inflation everywhere.

The surge in inflation created such a din

Stocks and bond returns only made the Grinch grin.

When out in Europe, there arose such a clatter,

Russia invading Ukraine is a serious matter.

More rapid than eagles, crypto companies did fall

And we can list them both big and small

Down Three Arrows, Down BlockFi and FTX.

Out Voyager Digital, Terra-Luna and Celsius.

Energy stocks twinkled, and returns were merry,

Despite ESG investors being wary.

Central banks caused interest rates to fly,

With mortgage rates soaring up to the sky.

Argentina and France struggled and battled,

The nerves of those shoot-out players were rattled.

Messi’s joy was ecstatic despite the fear,

That he would not secure the title to cap his career.

It was a sad day to see the Queen pass,

Her legacy is immense, and her memory will last.

China to reopen seems bumpy,

As Covid surges remain pretty lumpy.

Musk’s purchase of Twitter created a stir,

The lines of free speech continue to blur.

A ton of debt he took on his back,

And maybe now he is pedalling it back.

Will there be a hard or soft landing?

An official recession call remains outstanding.

The financial market will be glad to see 2022 fade out of sight,

I wish you all Merry Christmas and a good night!
