Somersfield team surges to first place in KPMG challenge

The Liquidators team from Somersfield Academy team rocketed from 15th to first place in the third round of the KPMG Senior School Investment Challenge after making a $46,032.43 profit on the virtual stock market.

Warwick Academy’s Madoff with the Money team took second ranking making $11,307.14, after previously being third.

Meanwhile, Bermuda Institute’s Stone Into Gold group fell from first to third, with their initial investment increasing by $8,222.23.

Its other team, Cashflows slipped from second to fourth after making $7,462.44 on their investment.

Students are given a virtual $100,000 to invest at the start of the event.

This is the 21st year for the competition with students from eight secondary schools participating.

The programme is designed to provide hands-on experience with the stock market, finance and accounting.

Students are vying for a chance at $10,000 for their school, as well as other prizes.
