Nelson Bascome Jr. has represented Pembroke East Central in the House of Assembly since 1989.As the former Minister of Health and Family Services, he had the challenging task of administering the largest of all Government Ministries embracing no less than 21 entities including both hospitals, Health and Social Services, the National Drug Commission, Charities Commission and other Government services concerned with the health and welfare of Bermuda's general population.President of Counseling Consultants, Nelson is also the Assistant Director of Focus Counseling Service, which provides services for those addicted and recovering from drug abuse.

Nelson Bascome Jr. has represented Pembroke East Central in the House of Assembly since 1989.

President of Counseling Consultants, Nelson is also the Assistant Director of Focus Counseling Service, which provides services for those addicted and recovering from drug abuse.

Nelson earned a Masters Degree in Human Resource Development from Webster University, a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Sociology at Morgan State University in Baltimore, and an Associate Degree in Dental Technology at Kerpel School of Dental Technology in New York. Locally, he attended Prospect Primary School, Whitney Institute and Bermuda College. He is currently a member of the Board of Trustees of Whitney Institute.

Mr. Bascome has a well-established reputation as a leader in the Pembroke community, particularly in initiating community programmes such as Friswell's Hill United. He was the organizer of the support group, Single Parents in Action, and has directed and taught the Pembroke Community Club Drum Corps. He also coached Devonshire Colts youth teams, and was actively involved in the Community Advice Center, a volunteer group that he was instrumental in organizing that provides free legal advice and counseling services. He was integral in the development of the St. Monica's Action Committee, which offers a community-based approach to assist families In need.

Nelson has lead parliamentary representatives on two Commonwealth Parliamentary Association conferences, and has been a facilitator and speaker to several international organizations including Counseling and Treating People of Colour, and the Executive Leadership and Cultural Diversity Institute.

As the Member of Parliament and Candidate for Pembroke East Central where he and his family reside, Nelson continues to strive for increased police presence in the St. Monica's and Parsons Road area, completion in transforming Pembroke dump into a park and widening narrow access roads to allow access for emergency vehicles.
