LaVerne Furbert

LaVerne Furbert is first and foremost a mother of two sons, one a writer in Toronto and the other a teacher at the Berkeley Institute who is also the author of two children's books. She is the proud grandmother of five.

Secondly she is a community activist who uses her various gifts to help as many people as she can to reach their full potential. She can be heard most days on radio talk shows defending and supporting her party, The Bermuda Progressive Labour Party. In February 2007, Ms. Furbert was a recipient of the PLP's Drum Major Award.

Ms. Furbert has been an active member of the Bermuda Progressive Labour Party for almost 40 years and has held various offices in the Party, both at the branch level and at the national level. This is not the first time that Ms. Furbert has put herself forward as a candidate for the Bermuda Progressive Labour Party. She contested the seat of Southampton West in 1982 and 1985.

At the age of 50, LaVerne enrolled in the Bermuda College and was the proud recipient of an Associate of Arts Degree in 1999.

She is presently employed at the Bermuda Industrial Union and is also she also writes for the Workers Voice.
