George Scott, JP, MP

George Scott is the Member of Parliament for the Bermuda Progressive Labour Party representing constituency 27. As a lifelong Progressive Labour Party member, George has represented the PLP in three general elections and held the position of Secretary General between 1992 - 1996.

Educated at the City College in New York, George's life tells a tale of success through hard work. Starting out in the hospitality industry as a chauffeur and bellman, George worked he way up to owning his own taxi, eventually becoming the President of Co-op Taxi Transportation.

George Scott also spent a number of years as a firefighter at the L. F. Wade International airport before working as the Chief Union Organizer for the Bermuda Industrial Union.

Fluent in Portuguese, George has used his free time to devout himself to a wide array of community issues. As the former President of Single Parents in Action and a member of the Steering Committee for Fathers Resource Institute, George realizes the importance fathers play in Bermuda's society.

Given his experience, he was also used as an excellent resource on the hospitality industry both by his membership in the Bermuda Tourism Board and the Taxi Advisory Committee. However, much of his time has been spent devoted to Bermuda's education system. He has held the positions of Vice President of the National PTSA and President of the Warwick Secondary School PTSA. He has been a member of Cedarbridge Academy's Board of Governors from 1999 and was recently appointed as its Chairman in 2007.

He recognizes the need and importance of immigration to Bermuda and he argues that Bermuda must address migrant worker abuse. He notes that Bermuda's immigration policy is well over 25 years old and efforts must be made towards developing a policy that works for Bermuda and her people. He also is very concerned with the lack of vocational training available in Bermuda education system. He argues that Bermuda must make efforts to train Bermudians to work in Bermuda's industry or face the problems associated with importation of foreign workers.

As the candidate for constituency 28 Warwick West, George would endeavor to tackle the problems and concerns of his constituents to ensure that Bermuda continues to move forward.
