Constituency #36 - Sandys North - Hon. Michael Scott, JP, MP
Michael Scott is a lawyer and proprietor of the Somerset legal practice, Browne Scott. Having earned his Bachelor of Arts Degree in English Literature and History from Mount Allison University, Michael was called to the English Bar in 1981 and the Bermuda Bar in 1982. e is a Member of Middle Temple where he completed his pupilage at 12 Kings Bench Walk London with a concentration in criminal and civil litigation.
Following the 1998 victory for the Progressive Labour Party, Mr. Scott was appointed a Government Senator with responsibility for Legislative Affairs, Development & Opportunity, Telecommunications, and E-Commerce. After the 2003 General Election win, Mr. Scott was reappointed to the Senate as Government Senate Leader and Minister of Legislative Affairs.
Mr. Scott contested and won the March 4th 2004 bye-election and became the Member of Parliament for Constituency 36, Sandy's North, filling the vacancy created by the untimely passing of the incumbent representative of Sandy's North and then Minister of Finance the Hon C Eugene Cox CBE JP MP. Mr. Scott was subsequently appointed Minister of Telecommunications & Ecommerce. Mr. Scott was appointed Junior Minister of Justice in November 2006 and was appointed Minister of Health in June 2007.
Mr. Scott follows in the great tradition of the Hon. C Eugene Cox CBE JP MP as a representative who is available, responsive, and reliable. Having listened to his constituents some of his accomplishments include the completion of the sea wall restoration on Boaz Island and the replacement of doors, windows and screening at BIG Units. He recently used the Hustle Truck program to clean up the vacant lot on Cambridge Road and was vital in the ongoing development of 100 affordable homes on Ireland Island.
Mr. Scott has secured improved lighting as a safety measure for locals and tourists on Cochrane Road. He also highlights continuing projects including the Boaz Island's CAPs Program, the restoration of Ferry Service to Boaz Island and the delivery and construction of 100 affordable housing units are in progress thanks to the efforts of the Minister of Public Safety and Housing Senator the Hon Lt Colonel David A Burch OBE ED JP.
Michael Scott welcomes the construction of the New Cruise ship Pier at Dockyard to accommodate the Panamax size ships in the Dockyard, realizing that such future programmes will improve housing needs and provide economic opportunities for area residents. His proven track record in working with and finding a solution for the concerns of the Long Bay Beach area residents is evidence of his commitment to his constituents.
Mr. Scott is a Member of the Allen Temple AME Church in Sandys Parish where he serves on a number of committees and is President of the Senior Choir. He is also a member of the Board of Trustees of Allen Temple. His parents the late Mr. Triscott C. Scott and Mrs. Bernice P Scott, raised four accomplished sons; Technologist Triscott Jr., Lawyer Lawrence and Senior Civil Servant Kenneth.
