Born and raised in Bermuda, Bob Richards completed his secondary education at the Berkeley Institute and continued his graduate education in Canada.

With a degree in business and an MBA from the University of Windsor, Bob returned to Bermuda in 1976. He held senior management positions at the Bermuda Monetary Authority and Shell Bermuda before founding Bermuda Asset Management Ltd. (BAM) in 1987 which later became affiliated with INVESCO in 1995. He was appointed a Partner in Amvescap Ltd., the ultimate parent of INVESCO.

His business experience and skills have proved valuable to his public service roles. In 1997, he was appointed Telecommunications Minister where he advanced competition within the telecommunications industry leading to reduced long distance rates. Over the years, Bob has served as the Bermuda Government Leader in the Senate, Minister of Telecommunications, Fellow of the Institute of Canadian Bankers, Director of the Bermuda Monetary Authority, Director of Bermuda Commercial Bank and Chairman of the Public Sector Funds Investment Committee.

In 2004, Mr. Richards was reappointed to the Bermuda Senate. He is happily married and is the proud father of two sons.

Did you know...

Growing up around Bermuda's waters, Bob has always had a keen interest in water activities and boating. A few years ago he was able to realize a childhood dream by owning his own boat. He enjoys spending time on the water and explains, “ I love the feeling of tranquil expansiveness that you get from being on the water. It's great to be able to take in all the wonderful sights and smells of our unique marine environment. I find these experiences help me to reduce stress and restore my soul.”
