Leadership comes easily to Sean Pitcher.

Sean, the Operations and Marketing Manager at Container Ship Management, has for more than 20 years demonstrated his leadership skills both at work and in the community organisations he supports.

Now, he wants to employ those leadership skills to serve the people of Pembroke East in the House of Assembly.

After earning an associate’s degree in hotel management from Bermuda College, Sean worked in the hotel industry for two years before embarking on a 19-year career at Bermuda Customs, where he rose through the ranks to the post of Principal Customs Officer. He ran the maritime drug interdiction team, and the enforcement division, during his tenure at Customs before joining Container Ship Management in 2003.

Sean sits on the board of directors at Bermuda Sailor’s Home, where he is a past chairman. He serves on the board of Crime Stoppers and is a member of St. George’s Rotary Club. Sean is also a Warden at the Cathedral in Hamilton, a member of St. George’s Dinghy Club and volunteers with both the Bermuda Festival and the World Rugby Classic.

Sean, who attended primary school at Frances Patton before going to Saltus Grammar School, says that Bermuda, now more than ever, needs responsible and responsive political leadership.

“I like to contribute to Bermuda’s well being,” he says.“I believe that if you aren’t part of the solution, then you are part of the problem. I want to get involved, be part of the solution – and make people’s lives better than they are.

“There is a growing number of people in Bermuda who are not well off. They are ignored, taken for granted, and it is those working class people and middle class people that I want to represent. I want to work with them and ensure that their interests are protected.”

Sean first became involved in Bermudian politics during the early 1980s when he acted as an election scrutineer. Before deciding to run for office, he worked behind the scenes as branch secretary for the United Bermuda Party in St. David’s.
