Grant Gibbons has been actively involved in public service in Bermuda for nearly two decades. He points to several significant highlights during his political career that he believes have made a positive difference in the lives of Bermudians. These include managing the seamless transfer of airport operations following the base closures and creating a long-term plan for the development of the base lands; deregulating the telecom industry, which led to lower rates for all Bermudians; introducing the National Pension Scheme in 1998, which provided Bermudians with greater financial security in retirement; and helping to guide the United Bermuda Party back to a position of strength after the 1998 election.

He is pleased to be accessible and responsive to the needs of his constituents and is happy to have helped many of them over the past 12 years with issues ranging from neighbourhood problems to untangling government bureaucracy. Grant was appointed campaign chairman for the United Bermuda Party in 1993. Following the successful October 1993 general election, he was appointed Senator and Minister of Management and Technology, with responsibility for overseeing the closure and redevelopment of Bermuda's military bases as well as telecommunications.

Grant was elected to the House of Assembly from Paget East in July 1994. In August 1995, he was appointed Minister of Finance, a position he held until the general election of November 1998. Grant continued to serve as a Member of Parliament and as Shadow Finance Minister. He was Chairman of the Public Accounts Committee of the Bermuda Parliament from 1998 until 2006. In October 2001, Grant was elected Leader of the United Bermuda Party, a position he held until January 2006.

Currently, Grant is the deputy chairman of the Colonial Insurance Group. He also serves on a number of other local and overseas company boards. He holds a Sc.B. from Brown University, a PhD in organic chemistry from Harvard University and a M.A. in Philosophy, Politics and Economics from Oxford.

Grant and his wife, Kathryn, married in 1983 and they are the proud parents of Graham and Andrew.

Grant attended Oxford University as a Rhodes Scholar from 1974 to 1976, where he was awarded a Master of Arts degree in philosophy, politics and economics.
