Jeff Sousa and his family have called Warwick home since the 1800's.

Jeff and wife Luan, who have been married for 26 years, live on the top of Burnt House Hill, a location that has been home to the Sousa family for more than 100 years.

Jeff's father, George, was born in their house in 1930, while his grandfather, Benjamin Sousa Sr., had a horse livery on the property during the 1920s. Jeff's grandmother was born next door in 1898.

“I love the parish of Warwick and its people,” Jeff says. “They are my people, the people I grew up with, and their families are the families that my parents and grandparents knew as neighbours.” Jeff's love of nature, and entrepreneurial skills, were evident early on. As a teenager, he grew plants and cut flowers, selling them at various locations throughout the island.

At 16, Jeff took the Audubon Natural History course at Nonsuch Island under his mentor, Dr. David Wingate, and then attended a two-year apprenticeship scheme with the Department of Agriculture and Fisheries. He worked at Elbow Beach Hotel and Stonington Beach Hotel, becoming head gardener while still just 20. Two years later, he formed P.A.L.M.S. Ltd. with two partners - and two years after that, started up his current business, Sousa's Landscape Management Co. Ltd., Bermuda's largest landscaping firm.

Jeff has a long history of public service, having sat on the Bermuda Heritage Advisory Committee and the Board of Agriculture & Fisheries. He currently sits on the Technical Education Advisory Committee of the National Training Board. He is immediate Past President of Hamilton Rotary Club where he is a Director.

Jeff and Luan are proud parents of son Colby, 25, and daughter Lindsay 22, both of whom work in the family business.
