Donte Hunt is passionate about helping people.
He believes it is his life mission to help others, whether as a Member of Parliament for the people of St. George’s South or as the former National Director of the Duke of Edinburgh Awards or as a missionary working abroad.
“I feel that now is the right time to step into the arena of public service,” Donte said. “I think I have the energy and the spirit that can best serve the people of St. George’s South.”
Donte sees housing and education as major issues.
“If not for the assistance of my family, I would be living the Bermuda nightmare, which is to be young, hard-working, raising a family, with no chance to own my own home. We need public representatives who are going to fight hard to change that reality.
“As a father of two young children, I am also extremely concerned about the state of public education. We need people in government who are going to make education reform the top priority. We have to get in place a system that equips our children to face the world with understanding, optimism and skills to succeed.”
Beyond the issues, Donte believes that all success starts at home.
“I believe that the success of a nation is rooted in healthy families. We need to focus on family. We need to celebrate family. We need to support family.”
Donte is the second son of Allan and Mildred Hunt. He was schooled at Francis Patton, the Berkeley Institute, Bermuda College and North Carolina State University where he earned a BA in Business Administration. Donte, 29, later attended Tyndale College and Seminary in Toronto, Ontario where he earned an MA in theology. He is currently working as a customer relationship manager at the Bank of Bermuda.
Donte finds his greatest joy and fulfillment spending time with his wife Kelly and their two young daughters, Annalise and Laylah.
