Susan Jackson of the OBA glided through the long day of polling to win 654 of 839 votes cast. Her win was no surprise to herself or to her opponents. Raised in a politically active family she is acutely aware of how best to canvass and what to expect in the ballot counting process. Accepting and giving hugs Miss Jackson serenely said, “I am happy and ready.”Susan Jackson also gave the following statement, “Thank you to all my supporters. Thank you to all who came out to vote today. It has been a wonderful experience meeting so many people and I look forward to continuing to be a positive member of this community, and getting to work and doing everything we can to bring about positive change on the island. Thank you.”Marcus Jones of the PLP came in second with 127 votes. Despite the long day and the disappointment of not winning he said he was feeling good and was glad to have been a part the process. Mr. Jones shares, “This has been a wonderful exercise in democracy and the people have spoken, and I pledge to continue to support and care for the people of this constituency.”Pembroke South West’s two independents did not take away much from the political parties. David Petty came in with 31 votes and Jonathan Starling with 24 votes. Both men are confident that their candidacies had a positive impact and added depth to the elections.
