Pembroke West Central

PLP candidate, Senator David Burt was declared the winner in constituency 18, Pembroke West Central, with 415 votes. He was followed by OBA newcomer, Nick Kempe, with 332 votes, while independent Philip Perinchief trailed with 87 votes.“I don’t think that winning the seat is important at a time like this,” said Mr Burt. “I wish the OBA the best of luck. The campaign has been nasty. The campaign has been vicious. The campaign has not necessarily been fought on a lot of issues and I think that things will decide, but I hope both parties can put the interests of Bermuda ahead.“The fact of the matter is that Bermuda has a lot of work to do and I think that we need to work and do our best to move the country forward. I hope to be the best representative that I can for the people of Pembroke West Central.”Conceding defeat, Nick Kempe, said: “I feel good. My only regret is that I got into the race so late that I only had a chance to speak to some 600 people in seven months and, I’ll keep banging on doors over the next five years.”Phil Perinchief, who was a PLP member until only two months ago and ran as an independent, said: “I feel very good. In fact, I want to thank first the 87 people who voted for me. I think that at least in constituency 18, they are beginning to see the value of an independent and I think that’s finally going to break through at some point.”With 1183 eligible voters, 834 votes were cast in Pembroke West Central, with voter turn out of just over 70 percent. There were only four spoiled ballots.ResultsPhil Perinchief — IND — 87David Burt — PLP — 415Nick Kempe — OBA — 332
