OBA incumbent and Shadow Attorney General, Trevor Moniz finished in Smith’s West with a healthy lead into a fifth consecutive Parliamentary term.

The 19-year veteran corralled 595 votes for the One Bermuda Alliance, or 65 percent of those cast.

Mr Moniz said: “You offer yourself, your services to the people. Today’s what it’s all about.

“You have 1,100 bosses [who] all give you their opinion. You work hard at it, try to do what’s best for the people.”

Progressive Labour Party candidate, Vance Campbell collected 304, or 33 percent, of the votes.

Mr Campbell said: “I knew it was a tough task when I took it … Sometimes your effort isn’t rewarded, but if it’s the branch’s wish, I will be there still working for the constituency between now and the next election.”

He said: “I think today’s really about the OBA, this undertaking we have to give the people what they need. We’ve got to get Bermuda out of this dreadful situation we’re in. We feel we have the solution and that the essential question is: ‘Do you want a change, or do you want more of the same?’ The people have spoken.”

Said Mr Campbell: “I congratulate Mr Moniz on his victory.”

The voting in Smith’s West Constituency 9 concluded with a turnout of 908, or 82 percent of the 1,103 eligible voters. Nine ballots were spoiled.
