St David’s

Progressive Labour Party’s Lovitta Foggo celebrated with family and supporters at Clearwater Middle School last night after defeating the One Bermuda Alliance’s Gaylynne Cannonier in St David’s.In the 2007 election Ms Foggo won the Constituency from Suzann Roberts-Holshouser, then with the UBP, by a total of 90 votes.Ms Foggo won 57 percent of the votes compared to Ms Cannonier’s 43 percent on a 70 percent turnout. The Constituency lost 197 voters to Constituency 4 in recent boundary changes, a move which was expected to favour the incumbent candidate.Prior to election Ms Foggo said she was actively fighting to make the area a tourism hub, and hoped to establish an Economic Empowerment Zone (EEZ) in St David’s.Ms Cannonier, the sister of OBA leader Craig Cannonier, meanwhile said she would work to create a community centre for St David’s.Ms Foggo said: “It was a hard fought race, but much of the result was made certain by the fact that I continued to work in the constituency for the last five years, never taking the constituency for granted. As tired as I am, I am overjoyed.“I am happy to be serving the next five years to get the community of St David’s, our beloved home, back on the right foot and making it the community we know it is.”Ms Cannonier said that while she was disappointed to have lost, she was pleased that her party won the election as a whole.“That was the most important thing,” she said. “I do wish Ms Foggo all the best, and I will still work with the community of St David’s.”RESULTLovitta Foggo: 511Gaylynne Cannonier: 384Voter turnout: 897
