Wayne Scott of the One Bermuda Alliance edged out the Progressive Labour Party’s Colonel David Burch by ten votes winning the Warwick North Central Parliamentary seat last night.

Working steadfastly in the constituency since 2005 and running for a second time, Mr Scott said he has been committed to helping area residents. At lunchtime yesterday he said if he won he would put his everything into the job.

Mr Scott tallied 436 votes, Col Burch 426 and independent candidate (former UBP candidate) Roderick Simons secured 22 votes.

As soon as the announcement was made Col Burch rose to his feet and shook hands with Mr Scott. Outside the polling station he said: “The people of constituency 27 have spoken and I accept it without reservation.”

Mr Scott was calm and humble responding to his win.

“First I want to thank God. I’ve worked hard and I am pleased that my constituents have given me the responsibility to represent them. I will work hard for them and Bermuda.

“I think this win represents the change people are looking for.”

Born, raised and still living in the constituency, independent candidate Roderick Simons only started canvassing last week. Due to the death of his father-in-law he had to travel to the Philippines.

He said he was urged to run by area residents and was committed to serving them.

“Standing as an independent candidate I’ve given the constituents their truly democratic right to vote for the candidate of their choice,” he said. “Tonight the electorate has spoken and I accept their choice.”

Seven ballots were rejected and two were spoiled. Voter turnout was 73.5 percent, with 884 voters turning out.
