Senate: Garbage trucks in short supply

Senator Lynne Woolridge

Fewer than ten garbage collection trucks were in operation on any given week during recent months, the Senate heard this morning.

An average of 407 tons of waste was picked up each week around the Island.

Details came from Lynne Woolridge, the Junior Minister of Public Works, in reply to parliamentary questions from Diallo Rabain, the Opposition Leader in the Senate.

There were 15 trucks operating in the first week of June, ten in the first week of July, eight at the start of August, eight for the first week of September, and nine for the first week of October.

There was just over $4 million allocated for cost centre 92029 in the 2015-16 budget — $2.7 million of which had been spent by the end of October.
