House: climate change group could reform

The national security minister called for the reinstatement of a working group on climate change.Wayne Caines spoke at the House of Assembly after a forum held in Bermuda heard that small islands could feel climate change before other locations.The Climate Risk Forum took place at the Hamilton Princess & Beach Club on Wednesday.Mr Caines also gave an update on the island’s disaster risk reduction and mitigation team’s work during this year’s hurricane season.He said that phase one of a plan for the emergency evacuation of Ferry Reach, including an evacuation of the two prisons, had been well received.A second phase will involve setting up a shelter for 600 residents for up to seven days.Under phase two, shelter for 600 residents up to seven days is envisaged.• To read Wayne Caines’s ministerial statement in full, click on the PDF under “Related Media”
