House: Coastguard on alert

Bermuda’s Coastguard has spent 119 days of the Covid-19 pandemic on 24-hour readiness, the House of Assembly was told this morning.Renée Ming, the Minister of National Security, said there had been an average of 4.56 patrols conducted daily, with 10,112 vessels intercepted.She said there had been 69 summonses issued for Covid-19 breaches, and 11 people arrested under suspicion of operating a vehicle under the influence.There were 73 tickets issued for marine violations, with other tasks including tackling fishing violations and illegal vessels at public docks.The unit, operated by the Royal Bermuda Regiment, works in conjunction with the Bermuda Police Service.• To read Renée Ming’s statement in full, click on the PDF under “Related Media”
