A damaged baby swing at a playground has been replaced after a worried father contacted The Royal Gazette with safety concerns.

The Shelly Bay, Hamilton Parish swing, designed for infants, was missing two of three rivets missing on one side of the seat which attached it to the swing arm.

The father, who asked not to be named, spoke to the parks department more than a month ago, but never received a response and the swing was not fixed.

The man said: “It makes me happy the swing has been replaced so all our children can play safely, but I do also find it concerning that it took me contacting the newspaper to get parks to act after getting no response from them for more than a month.”

A spokeswoman for the parks department said: “Having been made aware of the concerns regarding the damaged swing at the Shelly Bay Park playground, the department made the necessary repairs.

“The Department of Parks appreciates the issue being brought to its attention and wishes to assure the community that all who use Bermuda’s public park areas can do so safely.”
