David Burt has transferred $20 to the Editor of The Royal Gazette from a Butterfield Bank account he operates jointly with his wife.

The move comes in the wake of senior government MP Derrick Burgess stating in the House of Assembly that Butterfield was shutting down the accounts of four people, including two Progressive Labour Party premiers.

Mr Burt was asked last week if he was one of the two premiers that the House of Assembly Deputy Speaker was referring to.

The Premier replied by saying that he would send a money transfer from the bank to a Royal Gazette staff member.

Despite bank details being given on February 22, the transfer did not happen.

Mr Burt said the reason for that was because the recipient’s account was with a different bank and he needed address details.

The Premier then transferred $20 to Dexter Smith, the Editor of The Royal Gazette, from a joint Butterfield account in his and his wife Kristin Burt’s name yesterday.

The money will be returned to Mr Burt.

When contacted by The Royal Gazette, Mr Burgess declined to give further details relating to his House of Assembly statement.
